-!- A component, with EC, aminomethyltransferase and EC, dihydrolipoyl dehydrogenanse, of the glycine cleavage system, previously known as glycine synthase. The glycine cleavage system is composed of four components that only loosely associate: the P protein (EC, the T protein (EC, the L protein (EC and the lipoyl-bearing H protein.
The P protein from archaea and from certain (gram positive) bacteria is formed by two subunits. See for example: gi|14591729|ref|NP_143817.1| glycine dehydrogenase subunit 1 [Pyrococcus horikoshii] gi|14591728|ref|NP_143816.1| glycine dehydrogenase subunit 2 [Pyrococcus horikoshii]. Even though these subunits are phylogenetically related, only one apparently retains the ability to bind PLP (subunit 2 in the example above). In other eubacteria and in eukarya, a single polypeptide contains domains corresponding to the subunits 1 and 2.
