2.5.1.49
Description O-acetylhomoserine (thiol)-lyase.
Alternative names Methionine synthase. O-acetylhomoserine sulfhydrylase. OAH sulfhydrylase.
Catalyzed reaction O-acetyl-L-homoserine + methanethiol = L-methionine + acetate.
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate
Comments -!- Also reacts with other thiols or H(2)S, producing homocysteine or thioethers. -!- The name methionine synthase is more commonly applied to EC 2.1.1.13. -!- An enzyme from baker's yeast also catalyzes the reaction of EC 2.5.1.47, more slowly.
Formerly 4.2.99.10
Prosite PROSITE; PDOC00677;
Organisms -Bacteria -Archea -Fungi
