B6db activities: 2.6.1.22

2.6.1.22
Description (S)-3-amino-2-methylpropionate aminotransferase
Alternative names L-3-aminoisobutyrate aminotransferase.
Catalyzed reaction (S)-3-amino-2-methylpropanoate + 2-oxoglutarate = 2-methyl-3-oxopropanoate + L-glutamate
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate.
Comments -!- Also acts on beta-alanine and other omega-amino acids having carbon chains between 2 and 5.
-!- Not identical with EC 2.6.1.40.
The activity has been described in metazoa. In rat liver, the enzyme seems to be identical to beta-alanine-oxo-glutarate aminotransferase (GABA transaminase; EC 2.6.1.19).
