B6db activities: 2.6.1.4

2.6.1.4
Description Glycine aminotransferase
Alternative names L-Glutamate:glyoxylate aminotransferase;
Glutamic-glyoxylic transaminase;
Glyoxylate-glutamate aminotransferase;
GGT.
Catalyzed reaction Glycine + 2-oxoglutarate = glyoxylate + L-glutamate.
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate.
Comments The glutamate-glyoxylate transamination in rat liver is carried out mainly by alanine transaminase (EC 2.6.1.2).
Among the human cytosolic aminotransferases, alanine transaminase and also phosphoserine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.52) catalyze this reaction with good efficiency.

The validated plant enzymes, carrying out this reaction, are also strict homologs of the eukaryotic alanine transaminase (family 2.6.1.2_b).
