2.6.1.55
Description Taurine aminotransferase
Alternative names taurine:2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase
Catalyzed reaction Taurine + 2-oxoglutarate = sulfoacetaldehyde + L-glutamate.
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate.
Comments -!- Also acts on D L-3-aminoisobutanoate, beta-alanine and 3-aminopropanesulfonate.
-!- Involved in the microbial utilization of b-alanine.
The activity is documented only in bacteria, and appears to be distinct from taurine-pyruvate aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.77)
Organisms -Eubacteria
