B6db activities: 3.7.1.3

3.7.1.3
Description Kynureninase
Alternative names L-kynurenine hydrolase.
Catalyzed reaction L-kynurenine + H(2)O = anthranilate + L-alanine.
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate.
Comments -!- Also acts on 3'-hydroxykynurenine and some other (3-arylcarbonyl)- alanines.
3'-hydroxykynurenine is the favorite substrate of mammalian rnzymes, whereas bacterial enzymes prefer plain kynurenine.
Diseases Hydroxykynureninuria
PDB 1QZ9; 2HZP;
Organisms -Eubacteria -Fungi -Metazoa -Human
