2.6.1.39 |
Description |
2-aminoadipate aminotransferase |
Alternative names |
kynurenine aminotransferase II; KATII; AADAT; LysN. |
Catalyzed reaction |
L-2-aminoadipate + 2-oxoglutarate = 2-oxoadipate + L-glutamate. |
Cofactor |
Pyridoxal-phosphate. |

In man and rat, the alpha-aminoadipate aminotransferase reaction is also carried out by kynurenine aminotransferase I (2.6.1.7).
The human enzyme listed in family a, too, is apparently able to transaminate kynurenine and hydroxykynurenine and is often annotated as kynurenine aminotransferase II.
The yeast gene listed listed in family a encodes a transaminase with broad substrate specificity; even though it apparently prefers 2-aminoadipate as a substrate, it is annotated as aromatic aminoacid aminotransferase.
The enzyme from T. thermophilus included in family b is a broad-substrate specificity aminotransferase not closely related to the subgroup of eukariotic enzymes.
The enzyme from Pseudomonas putida, upo which family c is based, is yet another type of enzyme, related to GABA aminotransferases (2.6.1.18_b). |
