B6db activities:
Description 2-aminoadipate aminotransferase.
Alternative names kynurenine aminotransferase II;
Catalyzed reaction L-2-aminoadipate + 2-oxoglutarate = 2-oxoadipate + L-glutamate.
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate.
In man and rat, the alpha-aminoadipate aminotransferase reaction is also carried out by kynurenine aminotransferase I (

The human enzyme listed in family a, too, may be able to transaminate kynurenine and is sometimes annotated as kynurenine aminotransferase II.
The yeast gene listed listed in family a encodes a transaminase with broad substrate specificity; even though it apparently prefers 2-aminoadipate as a substrate, it is annotated as aromatic aminoacid aminotransferase.

Finally, the enzyme from T. thermophilus included in family b is a broad-substrate specificity aminotransferase not closely realted to the subgroup of eukariotic enzymes.
