Catalyzed reaction Sphinganine 1-phosphate = phosphoethanolamine + palmitaldehyde.
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate.
The enzyme controls the concentration of sphingosine 1-phosphate, a key sphingolipid second messenger involved in the regulation of cell proliferation, motility, invasiveness, and apoptosis.
