4.4.1.14
Description 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate synthase
Alternative names 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid synthase;
Aminocyclopropanecarboxylate synthase;
ACC synthase.
Catalyzed reaction S-adenosyl-L-methionine = 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate + methylthioadenosine.
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate.
Comments -!- Catalyzes an alpha, gamma-elimination.
In plants, the enzyme carries out the rate-limiting step in the ethylene biosynthetic pathway.

The only validated bacterial enzyme (from a Streptomyces species) is involved in the biosynthesis of the secondary metabolites guangnanmycins.

Prosite PROSITE; PDOC00098;
PDB 1IAY; 1IAX; 1B8G;
Organisms -Eubacteria -Plants -Fungi
