Description S-alkylcysteine lyase
Alternative names S-alkyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide lyase;
S-alkyl-L-cysteine lyase;
S-alkyl-L-cysteinase.
Catalyzed reaction An S-alkyl-L-cysteine + H(2)O = an alkyl thiol + NH(3) + pyruvate.
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate.
Comments -!- Decomposes S-alkyl-L-cysteines by alpha,beta-elimination.
-!- Possibly identical, in yeast, with EC 4.4.1.8.
This activity is hardly distinguishable from that of cysteine-conjugate beta-lyase (EC 4.4.1.13).
Many different PLP-dependent enzymes (including cystathionine beta-lyases) may be able to catalyze this reaction.
