B6db activities: amine.transaminase

Description Aromatic amine--pyruvate aminotransferase (2.6.1.-)
Alternative names amine-pyruvate transaminase;
omega transaminase (ambiguous);
Catalyzed reaction An aromatic amine + pyruvate = an aromatic ketone (or aldehyde) + L-alanine.
Cofactor Pyridoxal phosphate.
Comments -!- Acts on compounds such as 1-aminoindane, benzylamine or alpha-methylbenzylamine. It reacts less efficiently with aliphatic amines and with alpha- or omega amino-acids. In particular, it reacts very poorly with beta-alanine (which clearly distinguishes these enzymes with respect to EC, beta-alanine aminotransferase).
Organisms -Eubacteria
