GABA-T
Description gamma-aminobutyrate--pyruvate aminotransferase (2.6.1.-)
Alternative names GABA--pyruvate aminotransferase 4-aminobutyrate--pyruvate aminotransferase GABA-T
Catalyzed reaction 4-aminobutanoate + pyruvate = succinate semialdehyde + L-alanine.
Cofactor Pyridoxal phosphate.
The Arabidopsis enzyme uses preferentially pyruvate, rather than 2-oxoglutarate, as an amino group acceptor and is therefore distinct from EC 2.6.1.19. The sequences are similar to 2.6.1.18 (beta-alanine--pyruvate aminotransferase) and indeed this enzyme, too, is an omega-amino acid--pyruvate aminotransferase.
