GABA-T |
| Description |
gamma-aminobutyrate--pyruvate aminotransferase (2.6.1.-) |
| Alternative names |
GABA--pyruvate aminotransferase
4-aminobutyrate--pyruvate aminotransferase
GABA-T |
| Catalyzed reaction |
4-aminobutanoate + pyruvate = succinate semialdehyde + L-alanine. |
| Cofactor |
Pyridoxal phosphate. |

The Arabidopsis enzyme uses preferentially pyruvate, rather than 2-oxoglutarate, as an amino group acceptor and is therefore distinct from EC 2.6.1.19. The sequences are similar to 2.6.1.18 (beta-alanine--pyruvate aminotransferase) and indeed this enzyme, too, is an omega-amino acid--pyruvate aminotransferase. |
