glii
Description Twin carbon-sulfur lyase (4.4.1.-)
Alternative names GliI (gene name);
carbon-sulfate lyase;
Catalyzed reaction A bis(cysteine) S-conjugate + H(2)O = reduced (dithiol) gliotoxin + 2 NH(3) + 2 pyruvate
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate
Involved in the fungal production of gliotoxin. The mechanism of the enzyme is believed to involve two essentially simultaneous beta-elimination reactions occurring at the two cysteine moyeties of the substrate.
