Cofactor |
Pyridoxal phosphate |
Comments |
In Vibrio and Legionella species these enzymes are involved in the biosynthesis of 3-hydroxy-4-keto autoinducer molecules (such as 3-hydroxytridecan-4-one, better known as CAI-1), responsible for quorum sensing.
The precise reaction catalyzed by these enzymes is not known. The Vibrio enzyme can use as substrates decanyl-CoA and 2-aminobutyrate, giving the reaction above, but the physiological amino acid substrate could be different. Furthermore, there are indirect evidences that acyl-CoAs of different length can be used by these enzymes.
