Description GDP-D-α-D-lincosamide aminotransferase (2.6.1.-)
Alternative names CcbS (gene name);
LmbS (gene name)
Catalyzed reaction GDP-D-α-D-lincosamide + 2-oxoglutarate <=> GDP-6-oxo 6(1-hydroxyethyl)galactose + glutamate
Cofactor Pyridoxal phosphate.
Comments GDP-D-α-D-lincosamide [i.e., GDP-6-amino 6(1-hydroxyethyl)galactose] is an intermediate in the formation of lyncomycin antibiotics in Streptomyces lincolnensis.
The enzyme LmbS (and also its homolog CcbS, from the Celesticetin biosynthesis pathway) catalyzes the reaction in the direction opposite to the one shown above.
