perosamine_aminotransferase
Description Perosamine aminotransferase (2.6.1.-)
Alternative names perosamine synthetase;
GDP-4-keto-6-deoxy-D-mannose-4-aminotransferase;
RfbE;
Per
Catalyzed reaction GDP-4-keto-6-deoxy-D-mannose + L-glutamate = GDP-D-perosamine + 2-oxoglutarate.
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate.
In bacteria, the 4-amino-6-deoxy-monosaccharide D-perosamine is used for the glycosylation of products such as antibiotics and lipopolysaccharides.
Perosamine aminotransferase occurs in a wide variety of microorganisms, including pathogens, suggesting that the enzyme performs a function crucial for the normal life cycle and/or virulence of many species.
PDB 1O69;
Organisms -Bacteria
