In bacteria, the 4-amino-6-deoxy-monosaccharide D-perosamine is used for the glycosylation of products such as antibiotics and lipopolysaccharides.
Perosamine aminotransferase occurs in a wide variety of microorganisms, including pathogens, suggesting that the enzyme performs a function crucial for the normal life cycle and/or virulence of many species. |
