Description |
Beta-alanine aminotransferase (2.6.1.-) |
Alternative names |
Beta-alanine:2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase;
PydD (gene name) |
Catalyzed reaction |
Beta-alanine + 2-oxoglutarate = 3-oxopropanoate + L-glutamate. |
Cofactor |
Pyridoxal-phosphate. |
|
Involved in the reductive degradation of pyrimidine bases by some bacteria.
The enzyme reacts inefficiently with pyruvate, in contrast with EC 2.6.1.18 (Beta-alanine--pyruvate aminotransferase).
Sequences are closely related to those of taurine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.55); substrate specificities are also largely overlapping. |
