Description TDP-4-dehydro-2,6-dideoxy-D-glucose 3-dehydrase (1.17.1.-)
Alternative names TDP-4-oxo-2,6-dideoxy-D-glucose 3-dehydratase.
Catalyzed reaction TDP-4-dehydro-2,6-dideoxy-D-glucose + donor + H+ = dTDP-4-dehydro-2,3,6-trideoxy-D-glucose + oxidized donor + H2O
Cofactor Pyridoxamine-phosphate and iron-sulfur cluster.
Comments The reaction mechanism is analogous to that of CDP-6-deoxy-L-threo-D-glycero-4-hexulose 3-dehydrase (E.C. 1.17.1.1).

This enzyme is involved in the biosynthesis of forosamine, a highly deoxygenated sugar found in several natural products, such as the insecticide spinosyns.
The reaction product (dTDP-4-dehydro-2,3,6-trideoxy-d-glucose) is the substrate of the transaminase SpnR.
