Description Ustiloxin B synthase (4.2.1.-)
Alternative names UstD (gene name)
Catalyzed reaction L-aspartate + oxidized ustiloxin C = ustiloxin B + CO(2).
Cofactor Pyridoxal phosphate.
Comments Ustiloxins are post-translationally modified peptides (found in bacteria and fungi) that exhibit potent antimitotic activity and interfere with microtubule assembly.

The UstD enzyme from Aspergillus flavus presumably catalyzes a beta-decarboxylation reaction on L-aspartate, followed by a substitution with the aldehyde form of ustiloxin C, to generate ustiloxin B.
