Comments The enterobacterial enzyme is responsible for the synthesis of D-Viosamine (4-amino-4,6-dideoxy-D-glucose), whose derivatives, such as 4-(N-acetylglycyl)amino-4,6-dideoxy-D-glucose, are component of O-antigen variants.
In Streptomyces, the same reaction is exploited in metabolic pathways leading to the production of macrolides.
