Description Tyrosine decarboxylase. (family a)
Notes This family has been constructed around three validated bacterial sequences, but it also includes a closely homolog archaeal sequence.
Fungi and unicellular eukaryotes contain similar sequences, usually as part of larger multidomain proteins, but none of the gene products has been functionally validated.
Plant enzymes with tyrosine decarboxylase activity have been included into EC 4.1.1.28 (Aromatic amino acid decarboxylase).
