B6db families: 2
Description Arginine decarboxylase. (family 2)
Notes The family was built based on the sequence of the Escherichia coli (biodegradative) arginine decarboxylase, which is the only functionally validated enzyme.
The family encompasses only bacterial sequences belonging to the fold-type I group. (In contrast, plant arginine decarboxylases and the biosynthetic E. coli enzyme - included in family - belong to the fold-type III group).

Note that the sequences from gram- bacteria (including E. coli) are longer than those from gram+ bacteria, mainly due to the presence of an additional N-terminal domain in gram- proteins.
