Activity |
4.1.1.19 |
Description |
Arginine decarboxylase (family 2) |
Notes |
The family was built based on the sequence of the Escherichia coli (biodegradative) arginine decarboxylase. The family encompasses only bacterial sequences belonging to the fold-type I group. (In contrast, plant arginine decarboxylases and the biosynthetic E. coli enzyme - included in family 4.1.1.19_1 - belong to the fold-type III group).
Note that the sequences from gram- bacteria (including E. coli) are longer than those from gram+ bacteria, mainly due to the presence of an additional N-terminal domain in the enzymes from gram- species. |
