cobc
Activity cobc
Description cobC-like proteins
Notes A family of gene products, similar to CobC from Pseudomonas, apparently involved in the synthesis and addition of aminopropanol, in the cobalamin biosynthetic pathway.

The idea that these proteins are enzymes is strongly supported by the rigorous conservation of the PLP-binding lysine. However, the precise enzymatic function is unknown.

The family has been created because Christen and Mehta, in their reviews on the evolution of B6 enzymes, explicitly cited this group of gene products.
