4.4.1.6 |
| Description |
S-alkylcysteine lyase |
| Alternative names |
S-alkyl-L-cysteine sulfoxide lyase; S-alkyl-L-cysteine lyase; S-alkyl-L-cysteinase. |
| Catalyzed reaction |
An S-alkyl-L-cysteine + H(2)O = an alkyl thiol + NH(3) + pyruvate. |
| Cofactor |
Pyridoxal-phosphate. |
| Comments |
-!- Decomposes S-alkyl-L-cysteines by alpha,beta-elimination. -!- Possibly identical, in yeast, with EC 4.4.1.8. |
| |
This activity is hardly distinguishable from that of cysteine-conjugate beta-lyase (EC 4.4.1.13). Many different PLP-dependent enzymes (including cystathionine beta-lyases) may be able to catalyze this reaction. |
