	DsaD from the desotamide biosynthetic pathway in Streptomyces scopuliridis, and MfnO from the marformycin biosynthetic pathway in Streptomyces drozdowiczii drive l-allo-Ile generation in each respective system. Epimerase activity is conferred to these enzymes by a separate, small protein (termed DsaE in S. scopuliridis MfnH in S. drozdowiczii) which belongs to the NTF2_like superfamily and may be considered, in a sense, a cofactor for DsaD.
