abstract	An enzyme capable of decarboxylating one of the enantiomorphs of allo-beta-hydroxy-D,L-glutamic acid has been found in certain bacteria. The enzyme differs from glutamic decarboxylase. The coenzyme is pyridoxal phosphate.
