Comments -!- The protein from P. putida does not require pyridoxal-phosphate.
-!- The enzyme from a number of sources also acts on L-serine, cf. EC 4.3.1.17.
-!- The reaction catalyzed probably involves initial elimination of water (hence the enzyme's original classification as EC 4.2.1.16), followed by isomerization and hydrolysis of the product with C-N bond breakage.

Biodegradative threonine deaminase from Salmonella is dimeric, but apparently it becomes tetrameric (dimer of dimers) in the presence of the allosteric effectors AMP or CMP.
