Description 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferase
Alternative names Gamma-amino-butyrate transaminase;.
GABA transaminase;
Glutamate--succinic semialdehyde transaminase;
Beta-alanine--oxoglutarate aminotransferase.
Catalyzed reaction 4-aminobutanoate + 2-oxoglutarate = succinate semialdehyde + L-glutamate.
Cofactor Pyridoxal-phosphate.
Comments -!- Some preparations also act on beta-alanine, 5-aminopentanoate and (R,S)-3-amino-2-methylpropanoate.
The enzyme from rat liver seems to be identical to (S)-3-amino-2-methylpropanoate aminotransferase (2.6.1.22).
